Pray For Me

Tomorrow ( 2/25/09) I will be trying out for the Baker County High School production of L.F. Baum's children's classic,"The Wizard of Oz." This is VERY nerve wrecking for me. This is only the second play I have tried out for at the high school. Another factor that really scares me is that you have to sing a song. My voice has never ever been too great. Very high pitched.
I have chosen to sing Barbra Streisand's 1976 number-one hit, "Evergreen," from the movie,"A Star Is Born." This is a very hard song to sing. So if you are reading this, please pray for me. Pray that I have the confidence and my voice doesn't sound to rough.

The Annual "Burn The Woods" Day

On Tuesday, My papa got a permit to burn our woods.
You may or may not have ever seen someone burn woods. First, about 3 weeks ahead of time, you go around the areas you are burning with a tractor, and cut a fire line. A fire line is a 4 or 5 foot section of plowed dirt around your area. Then, you call the forestry department, and get a permit. Finally, you strike a match and head out with the fire pot.

We do this EVERY year, hence "annual."

A fire pot is a heavy, smutty, piece on iron or some metal, that had gas in it. The gas drips through a long spout and catches on fire. The official name is a 'drip torch.'

I spent hours out in the swamps of Mudlake Road, trying, along with my papa, brother, and cousin, to get the woods burned with not wind. Wind plays a very important role in the burning of woods. It pushes the fire across the land, and makes the whole process go a whole lot faster.

Anyhow, three hours of smoke and ashes, we finally got half of them burnt. What a fun experience that was for me.

Hope you all have a great weekend and great week.

Rainy Days and Monday's

If you are old enough, you may remember the Carpenters had a 1971 hit entitled, "Rainy Days and Mondays." In the song, Karen states how she hated rainy days and Mondays, but has she ever experienced both of them on the same day? Today is a rainy day and a Monday. This has put me in awful mood all day. It seems that all the time on rainy days and Monday's that things don't go well. Example, I got more homework than ever, 33 to be exact. Also, I took an AR test and made a 65% (this gives no AR points.) So if you are thinking that this day is the worst since Jimmy Carter ( I would use another president but I don't want to offend anyone) was elected president, remember, tomorrow is another day.

**** Update****** my mother cooked a mashed potato casserole today, maybe we are breaking out of the routines.

Household Routines - Yuck!!!!!!

For my entire life, my family has been bad about staying with the same old, same old. Please look at the following examples:

1.) Everyday, my Nana has dinner on the table at exactly 1:00 pm.

Several things are wrong with this. Not only is it always at 1:00, she always has biscuts, and a fried food ( Now, every now and then, she will cook spagetti, not often, Papa doesn't like it.)

2.) Every Friday, we go out to eat.

This bothers me immensly, not the going out to eat, its where we go. We either go to Woody's or Pier Six. Now don't get me wrong, those are fine establishment, but they do get old.

3.) Every Night, we watch a football game.

For as long as I can remeber, My father has always watched a football game after supper. This gets so annoying when all you hear is," Touchdown" all night long.

So, In Conclusion, If you are a parent, put a little spice in your life and the lives of you children. Here are some idea's to help.

1.) For dinner, if you cook at home, try to have a different cultural meal at least 2 times a week, Italian, Chinese, Latin, or old family recipes from Germany or Israel. Then go out of your way to try different recipes from online or cookbooks. This will really put taste in your life. * Also, set different meal times.

2.) For after dinner, try to watch televison only on 2 days a week, ( Tuesdays and Wednesday because of "American Idol," just kidding :) Other nights, try family bible studies, game night ( with your favorite board games) or just read a book together. Do anything to keep yourself from watching that filth on TV. * If finances allow, try to see a good movie at least once a month ( at the Starke, Florida movie theater, they only charge 5$ for a film.)
